Prerequisite: Students who are full-time, commissioned peace officers, reserve, or act under the umbrella of a law enforcement agency are automatically eligible for attendance. Anyone not within these groups, should contact us at for direct approval.

Course Description: This 8-hour course provides an experience you won't find anywhere else! Students learn drugs, paraphernalia and processing procedures at Sensory Stations and through short, specific, Instructor collaboration. Students are exposed to a multitude of abused drugs in the seven drug categories; some are in your area now, and others are trending your way! Special training includes testing newly gained ability to identify and articulate physical and psycho-motor indicators of drug ingestion.

As a student, you will walk away with a higher level of expertise in drug identification, and be able to identify poly-drug abuse. More great i

Instructors: Your instructors, Randy Royal and Nick Ramos will be your guides through this superb course. Randy Royal is a retired 19 year veteran of the California Highway Patrol. Fifteen years of his career were dedicated to handling complex felony investigations for the CHP, and for the last six years of his career, he worked as a patrol/narcotic detection Canine handler, focusing on narcotic interdiction. Randy was a Departmental Canine Maintenance Trainer for the the CHP, as well as a certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and a DRE Instructor for 10 years. Randy continues to keep his knowledge of drugs and drug trends fresh by training weekly with law enforcement, as well as instructing at the State Center Community College, Fresno Police Academy and the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigations. 

Nick Ramos, a retired Sergeant and K9 handler from the New Mexico State Police, brings a wealth of experience gained as a Narcotics Agent where he acquired extensive knowledge of the drug underworld before returning to the streets. Nick conducted investigations and interviews from over 300 personal seizures of drugs, money, and weapons of cartel controlled property. Nick continues his work as a Deputy for the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office. He is a guest presenter for several large organizations including HIDTA, INIA, BJA, Sheriff's & Chiefs of Police, CNOA, and CNCA.

Dress Code: Comfortable clothing and closed toed shoes are recommended to allow for participation in many physical training exercises.
